Are you being rewarded?
1/7/2010 11:50:21 AM - News Article
It seems like every store you go into today has a "Rewards" program of some sort.  I mean, I just had to run off to the grocery store the other day to grab a gallon of milk, and when I was in the milk aisle, I noticed that a particular brand of milk was on sale for a very low price.  So, thinking, milk is milk, I grabbed the gallon, and made my way up to the checkout.  The nice girl scanned the milk, and it came up with a price that was higher than the most expensive brand that was in the milk department.  I nicely said "I'm sorry miss, your sign said that this brand is on sale."  She replied that I would need to be a "Rewards Member" in order to take advantage of that sale.  As it turns out, I already am a rewards member, but didn't have my special "card" or secret decoder ring or whatever it is that they use to prove that I am a member.  So, after a little discussion back and forth, she agreed to give me the sale price on the milk, but admonished me that she would not be able to do that again, and that i must have my membership card the next time.

This story begs the question:  "Is your rewards account really rewarding you at all?"  I mean, if I cant even take advantage of a regular sale, without being a rewards member, then I guess there is no such thing as a sale to the general public at this grocery store.  I'm sorry, that is not my idea of being rewarded.

When we set out to design our rewards program, I sat down with my management team and said "I want to create a truly rewarding rewards program.  I want Same Day Computer to redefine what being rewarded actually means!  In doing so, we decided to take some drastic measures...I mean, if you are going to be a member of any group, that group should have real benefits, not just feel-good benefits.  What we did was we started by saying "Anyone, whosoever wishes, can be a rewards member!"  You do not need to be a Same Day Computer customer to be a rewards member.  In fact, you can join, enjoy many of our benefits, and never even step foot in any of our stores.  The next thing we did was created a set of benefits that are tangible, benefits that are rarely seen anywhere in any company's rewards program.  Some of those benefits include:
  • Two FREE computer evaluations per year, no strings attached
  • A substantial amount of points-back on all purchases made with us.  Those points can be spent at any Same Day Computer location, any way you wish
  • Cash-referral program:  We recognize that word-of-mouth is the best advertising, and we value it so much that we are willing to pay you cash for it.  When you tell your friends about us, and they use any of our services, we will cut you a check for doing so!
  • Free software!  As you may know, we are not just computer repair geeks...we are software developers too!  We are always building cool new apps, games, and other computer related programs.  We routinely make these available to our customers to enjoy.  Most recently, you must check out the StarPop Challenge, it's right in the downloads section of our website!
  • Crazy-low prices on the "deal of the month."  We select a product every month, and discount it well below our cost...and we make these deals available to our rewards members
  • Unlimited coffee mugs.  I know you are LOL'ing at that one...but yea, rewards members can get as many Same Day Computer coffee mugs as they want, to give to friends and family! (subject to availability)
So, I ask again, "Are you being rewarded?"  It is time to sign up for a FREE rewards account at http://rewards.samedaycomputers.com!

How much memory is enough?
3/30/2009 9:27:10 AM - By Robbie Fisher

One of the most common questions I get during the day-to-day here at Same Day Computer is how much memory is enough memory?

For some gamer addicts, it's possible you can never have enough, but for most computer users, there is a balance that can be found- and there are also limits.

Finding the right amount of memory consists of analyzing what you do with your computer. If you only browse the web to read the new york times, you'll probably need less memory than somebody who edits photos.

Everybody's different, though, and it's hard to tell without looking at each machine. But here are a few good guidelines:

-If your computer appears to run slower than when you bought it...
More memory is unlikely to make your computer much faster than the day you bought it. But if you remember the "good ol' days" when your pc ran like a champ, it's very possible you need some more memory- and possibily a cleanup. Of course, Same Day Computer can help you out as always!

-Running a lot of programs slows you down...
Your computer runs fine, but as soon as you open a few programs at once, things start to slow down... especially when switching between the programs. Time for a new computer? Maybe not! More memory can easily solve this issue. Give us a call and we can help determine just what's right for you.

Now, it would be great if we could just keep adding more memory for the rest of eternity, we'd never have to buy another computer again, right? Well, unfortunately, computers have a limit for how much memory can be added. Certain parts of your machine can cause limitations:

  • Motherboards have a max amount of memory. Some older motherboards may have a limit as low as 1 gb, or as high as 4!
  • Operating systems limit the amount of system memory that can be utilized by your programs. This means that most Windows XP computer (which are usually 32-bit) can only handle a max of 4 gb (But usually only see about 3 - 3.25 gb)
  • Newer computers with newer operating systems (Vista 64-bit) can address 8gb, 16gb, and even 128gb in different versions! Of course, this is still bottlenecked at the maximum your motherboard allows.

The bottom line?
It can be tricky to determine just how much memory you need, if you need it, and how much you can take if you do. If you need any help at all determining whether or not you need more memory, and how much you can take, feel free to give any one of our locations a call, and we'll help you out right...

A common IPOD problem!
3/11/2009 4:49:43 PM - News Article

A strangely common problem that we've seen recently is a confusing one. A lot of our customers use their ipod to keep a backup of their music when doing a format on their PC/Mac. When they go to reconnect their ipod to recover their music- they try to sync with itunes, just to discover it erased all their music!

A couple hundred tracks from itunes isn't cheap, but fear not- this doesn't have to happen!

When Apple wrote itunes, they wanted to make it as simple as possible for their customers. Part of that simplicity included easy-to-do syncing, which may (or may not) be exactly what their customers were looking for.

But Apple did make a way to recover that music, you just need to pay attention! When you plug your ipod back into your machine, make sure NOT to re-sync off the bat.

If you've already lost all your music, or you need help recovering music from your ipod, give us a call. We're more than happy to help!... (Read Full Story)
