Cloud storage (such as google drive) keeps your files in the cloud so you can access them from anywhere or share between multiple computers. It doesn’t function as a good backup tool since you can easily delete or overwrite a file that is automatically synced with cloud storage syncing tools. People who suffered from the recent encryption virus “Wannacry” would see their files get irreversibly corrupted and their cloud storage sync tool (such as google drive or dropbox) would overwrite the file in the cloud with the corrupt version automatically.

Cloud backups, on the other hand, make a copy of your files and stores multiple versions of them in the cloud so you can retrieve them in case of emergency.
