Researchers have noticed an overall decrease in ransomware over the last year, however, the one that seems to be hanging in there and actually increasing is called ‘Shade.’
This ransomware is sent as an email attachment with an urgent note to open it immediately! After you open the attachment, it downloads the ransomware and encrypts your data.
Before you open an attachment:
Be sure that you know who the sender is and that they sent you the attachment.
A good rule of thumb is that if you aren’t sure, don’t open it!
Steps to prevent ransomware:
1: Always have a backup of your data.
2: Keep your computer up-to-date.
3: Have an antivirus installed and make sure it’s up-to-date as well.
