Last month in May, Facebook reportedly pulled over 2 billion fake accounts.
Admittedly, the majority of these accounts had just been created. Facebook deals with fake accounts in one of three ways:
1: Blocking them from being created
2: Removing them as they sign-up or
3: Removing accounts already on Facebook.
They acknowledge that the last category is the most difficult and causes the most trouble.
There are nine categories that determine whether Facebook will remove an account or not:
- Adult nudity and sexual activity
- Bullying and harassment
- Child nudity and sexual exploitation of children
- Fake accounts
- Hate speech
- Regulated goods: drugs and firearms
- Spam
- Terrorist propaganda (ISIS, al-Qaeda and affiliates)
- Violence and graphic content
Things that you can do:
Facebook’s software to find this activity isn’t completely accurate. If you see something that you think is out of place, report it.
